Resident artist ~ Installation, sculpture & ritual material

Mandy Johnston

Mandy Johnston makes work that lands somewhere between a ritual object, a material experiment and a quiet threshold ~ copper, shadow, fire and steel wool turned into something you feel before you read.

Mandy is a South African multidisciplinary artist working across alternative materials, sculptural installation, alternative photographic processes, film and printmaking. Her practice circles human connection, fragility, memory and the symbolic charge of the materials she chooses.

She holds an MFA from the University of the Witwatersrand and has been a finalist for Sasol New Signatures, ABSA L’Atelier and the PPC Young Sculptors Awards, alongside the Ithuba Trust Award and a turn as festival artist for the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival. Recent work has shown with Everard Read / CIRCA Cape Town, AfrikaBurn and Berman Contemporary.
